BIOGRAPHY

Growing up in the gritty, edgy, and somewhat dangerous atmosphere of 1970s New York City, helped fuel Los Angeles based photographer Peter Register’s interest in film photography.  His earliest recollection of shooting is as a six year old using a Nikkormat, a gift from his father, at The Bronx Zoo, later printing his images to make a book of the animals he captured on film.

Upon moving to southern California, Peter recalls picking up the Cartier-Bresson classic, "The Decisive Moment" which moved him tremendously. He was encouraged to expand his craft into environmental portrait photography.  Peter relates, “I feel that portrait photography, if done properly, can capture the essence of a person uniquely.”

Preferring film to digital, and black and white to color, Peter additionally enjoys shooting when his own passions for surfing and backpacking get him out of the city and into nature.
